WEST GASTONIA FOOD LION HAS NEW LOOK, FEATURES
16 Jan 2008

From time to time, some of our faithful readers are kind enough to remind us that west Gastonia and areas around it have business developments worth noting, too.
And Tommy Joe tries to pay attention. But he has to admit, thanks to Marilyn McSwain, this assignment was a lot easier than the average bear.
So here it is. Wednesday the Food Lion at West Franklin Boulevard and Edgewood Road was showing off its $1.3 million facelift. Tuesday evening fourth- and fifth-grades from Sadler and Chapel Grove elementaries serenaded the VIP reception with violins.
Wednesday there was entertainment by the fourth-grade chorus from Bessemer City Central Elementary.
Among of the morning shoppers were W.F. Young and his wife, Glista, from Bessemer City. Coming out of the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II, he went to work with Ketner’s Grocery in Lexington. And it was Ralph Ketner who became the founder of Food Lion.
“We had good produce then and they’ve still got good produce now,” Young said. “We’ve watched this store change, and we enjoy shopping here.”
Hunter Huss High graduate Bobby Bradshaw is this store’s manager. He’s been in groceries for 23 years, 14 of them with Food Lion. “This means a lot to me, being born and raised here,” Bradshaw said.
His store contains to 31,422 square feet, and the remodeling involved many new features to the new deli section, and entire aisle devoted to Hispanic products, a special chilled wine box and the addition of Western Union services.
This store’s hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week and the phone number is 704-867-9093.
