MCDONALDS COMING TO SOUTH GASTONIA
22 Nov 2007
By Thomas Monigan -
Happy Thanksgiving and God go with you if you’re among the legions of pre-dawn bargain hunters Friday.
Coming to Hoffman Village
Here we’re dealing with the shopping center where Lowes Foods and Lotus Bar & Eatery are the headliners. It’s at the intersection of Gaston Day School and Hoffman roads.
Wednesday we heard from Jake Whittingham, who works for developer JDH Capital in Charlotte.
He told us what’s coming to some of the land out front would be a Lowes Gas station and a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant. Yes, the “Golden Arches,” the company that just announced it was upgrading its coffee menu.
Completion would be targeted for the fourth quarter of next year. More on this soon.
The Standard, Phase II
This involves local developer Chuck McClure and Shawn and Gregg McAllister and their company, Charlotte-based McAllister.
Narmour Wright Creech Architecture was the designer of this multi-building project on South Street in downtown Gastonia.
The first phase involved six living spaces above the former Standard Hardware store, all of which have been rented. There was also an office for the Downtown Development Corp. and one level where the city of Gastonia’s Code Enforcement Department operates in 5,000 square feet.
Phase II has just been completed and this involves four living units. Each has two bedrooms and a bath and a half, with skylights and 12-foot ceilings. Space ranges from 1,000 to 1,150 square feet and rent runs from $1,150 to $1,250 month.
There are also two retail spaces with 2,500 square feet each, and the cost there is $12 per square foot.
“Everybody who sees it loves it,” McClure said earlier this week.
He and the McAllisters are the first to put money into this type of development in downtown Gastonia. Only time will tell how successful they’ll be, but the quality of this effort is more than evident.
