MEBANE OAKS VILLAGE TO HOLD GRAND OPENING

6 Apr 2008

Times News- Mebane Oaks Village will be having its grand opening next month on Mebane Oaks Road in Mebane.
It used to be Mebane Oaks Marketplace back when Winn-Dixie was the anchor.
In May, Lowes Foods will open one of its FreshSmart grocery stores in the renovated grocery space. FreshSmart is what Lowes calls the upscale stores it is building around here these days with a larger selection of meat and seafood, organic produce, gourmet food, a deli and bakery.
The chain already has one of the stores in Alamance County at its location on University Drive, Burlington.
The shopping center's new owner, Charlotte-based JDH Capitol, also says there will be some new tenants coming to Mebane Oaks Village like Sake Sushi & Steak, a Japanese restaurant from the owners of Stir King, and Digital Graphics and More.
The location across from the Arrowhead development with its expanding Alamance Regional Medical Center Mebane campus has also brought a 2,400-square-foot Cancer Treatment Center to Mebane Oaks Village.
The whole place has an updated look after a few months of work on the exterior.
Long-standing tenants like Champion Martial Arts stand out a lot more than they did before. Champion offers classes for adults and children, in TaeKwonDo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, mixed martial arts and general fitness. There are also after-school programs, summer camps and a "Little Ninjas" class for 3- to 6-year-olds. See www.championskick.com for more information.
Other tenants, Blockbuster Video, Randolph Bank, La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, Raffles, Wrap Pack & Ship, USA's Gourmet, Mebane Pet Clinic, Elite Nail & Tan, Quizno's, Roma's Pizza, Stir King, QC Cleaners, and Wireless Sales also got a new look in their old home.
Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone, Blue Ribbon Café, Bojangles and Waffle House are located on out parcels.
This has been a tough spot to fill, oddly enough. With subdivisions going up down the road and across the road in the old Arrowhead golf course and lots of new retail like the Wal-Mart on the other side of the Interstate 85/40 overpass, Mebane Oaks Road is becoming the high traffic area of Mebane.
But the anchor has been empty since Winn-Dixie closed all its stores in 2005. A new discount store chain called Boxcar was supposed to move in 2006 or 2007, but never appeared. The company's phone has since been disconnected.
Previous owner Clarke Lindley sold the shopping center last year and the renovations started.
