ST. JOHNS COUNTY -- Palencia is getting a shopping center anchored by an $11 million upscale Food Lion prototype grocery store.
The Shoppes at Palencia Commons will include a 35,000-square-foot Food Lion with international and specialty items, national and organic products, a wine and beer department and a full-service deli-bakery department. The center, which will have an open-air market feel, also will include 12,000 square feet of retail space that could be used by restaurants and other businesses.
JDH Capital, a retail development and management company that specializes in open-air neighborhood shopping centers, is developing the nearly 47,000-square-foot center. Groundbreaking is scheduled for May and the shopping center is expected to open by the end of 2008.
The Shoppes at Palencia Commons is Charlotte-based JDH Capital's first Jacksonville area project. JDH developed a similar Food Lion, the first of its kind for the grocer, in Savannah, Ga.
