GASTONIA'S HOFFMAN VILLAGE IS A HAPPENING PLACE

When we left Tommy the Terrier last week, he was reporting about JDH Capital and what this developer is doing with Hoffman Village and New Hope Crossing in southern Gastonia.
Today we're able to expand on that. We'll get back to Anytime Fitness at New Hope Crossing at a later date. For now, hello out there to the JDH team of Alan Marshall, Jake Whittingham, Katy Figg and Thomas Dunn.
Hickory Tavern
Monday we got to speak with Tom Hager, one of the men in charge at T&B Concepts LLC of Hoffman Village. He's the "T" and nephew Brad Smith is the "B". They are the folks who are teaming with JDH to bring Hickory Tavern to an "outparcel" in front of the Lowes Foods-anchored shopping center.
Check out www.hickorytavern.com for information such as a menu and wine list. And it turns out Hager has definite old-school qualities, so you'll also see a variety of draft beers.
Quick facts:
The restaurant will contain about 6,500 square feet and seat about 210.
There will be a covered patio where you can find about four dozen seats.
No general contractor has been chosen, but completion is targeted for the fourth quarter of this year.
"We intentionally went where we are," Hager said.
Current locations include one each in Hickory and Greenville, S.C., and five in Charlotte.
The newest of these is in Ballantyne, which photos you can see here with this column. And there's another location slated for Mecklenburg County just north of the Buster Boyd Bridge and Lake Wylie, S.C.
"We like to believe that the way we do things with our food and beverage, everybody can get something," Hager said.
McDonald's
Marshall has mentioned that the other "outparcel" at Hoffman Village involves an all-brick "Chicago" prototype of McDonald's.
In Tommy's opinion, forget what you read about turmoil with McDonald's stock. Mickey D's is an American institution, and this location will generate plenty of business.
PRstore
Faithful readers might recall reading about Maribeth Jenkins. She and husband Wayne will be opening this operation at Hoffman Village next to the nail salon.
Thanks to material she provided, we can report that PRstore writes and produces a variety of printed and online materials - ranging from brochures and newsletters to Web sites and e-blasts. PRstore also provides press release services, media placement, logo development, and radio and TV commercials, as well as a wide variety of promotional items that can be imprinted. Everything is offered on a menu-driven, a la carte basis.
Maribeth and Wayne were each born in Gaston County. She's a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass communication; and also holds a master's degree in health promotion from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She worked as a consultant with a marketing company for nine years.
Wayne is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor of science in criminal justice. He has over seven years of outside sales experience in the construction industry.
As a major in the Army National Guard, he has almost 20 years of construction engineering management experience. He has served in Iraq as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his efforts.
The new Gastonia PRstore will join 42 other units in 18 states stretching from New York to Honolulu. Launched in Charlotte in 2001, PRstore aims to open more than 350 stores in all 50 states.
